Boston Globe: As summer winds down, memories of Mr. Lemon pour in

PROVIDENCE — When the summer started, the Rhode Island Report podcast did an episode about Mr. Lemon, the iconic lemonade stand that has been a fixture in the North End of Providence for 50 years now.
...
“To me, what Mr. Lemon reflects is the heart — really, the spirit, the pride of Providence and of Rhode Island,” said US Representative Gabe Amo, a Rhode Island Democrat.
“Everybody who knows it knows that Mr. Lemon isn’t fancy,” Amo said. “It’s not marketed. It’s got handmade signs. It’s on Hawkins Street — not necessarily the epicenter of commerce. But it’s family owned, family driven through and through. When I think about it, really, more than anything, Mr. Lemon is authentic, and it is authenticity.”
Last year, during a WPRI-Channel 12 debate, eight Democratic congressional candidates were asked if they favored Del’s Lemonade or Mr. Lemon, and Amo was the only one to raise his hand for Mr. Lemon.
