Amo Statement on Court Orders on Trump’s Illegal Withholding of SNAP Funds

Providence, RI – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement on the rulings in Rhode Island State Council of Churches v. Rollins and Commonwealth of Massachusetts v. United States Department of Agriculture:

“Trump’s choice to withhold SNAP funds from American families amidst the ongoing Republican government shutdown was always cruel and illegal. Now the President and USDA must act. I am hopeful because our federal courts have stepped in to force Trump to pay November SNAP benefits. Nonprofit and municipal leaders from across Rhode Island showed great courage in bringing a case to force Trump to make sure families are fed. And thanks to Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha for joining with Attorneys General to make clear Rhode Islanders won’t accept our neighbors going hungry. Trump must act quickly, without any further delay and comply with this order. We must continue holding Trump accountable, and I will continue to fight on behalf of Rhode Islanders.”
