PROVIDENCE, RI – In an effort to investigate and expose the Trump Administration’s blatant and unwarranted politicization of federal disaster aid, Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) demanding answers and the preservation of records and documentation related to Rhode Island’s request for a major disaster declaration for the historic February 2026 blizzard.

PROVIDENCE, RI – Despite the fact that a historic February 2026 blizzard met and surpassed the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) threshold for federal assistance, the Trump Administration on Wednesday rejected appeals from Rhode Island and other ‘Blue states’ that requested a Major Disaster Declaration.

Washington, DC – Yesterday, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI),  Congressman James Walkinshaw (D-VA), Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-IL), and Senator Edward J. Markey (D-MA) led 134 Members of Congress in demanding the Trump administration release international affairs funding, including Global Health Programs funding, before its expiration and stop proposed changes to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
