PBN: U.S. Rep. Amo announces Congressional App Challenge for local students

October 8, 2024

PAWTUCKET – U.S. Rep. Gabe Amo, D-R.I., is seeking participation from local middle and high school students in the annual U.S. House Congressional App Challenge.

Amo’s office says any middle school or high school student who lives in or attends school within the state’s 1st Congressional District as part of the challenge is encouraged to create a new digital app. Such apps can be written in any programming language, including JavaScript, and for any platform, such as mobile, web, desktop computer or other devices, Amo’s office says.

“This opportunity offers young people the ability to gain real-world experience and develop skills in the cutting-edge field of computer programming,” Amo said in a statement. “I look forward to seeing the apps that are submitted for this competition by the next generation of digital leaders.”

Apps will be judged by a panel of technology experts, Amo’s office says. The winning app will be featured on the challenge’s website and will also be eligible to be displayed at the U.S. Capitol.

Submissions are due Oct. 24. Additional information can be found on the challenge’s website.
