Amo Delivers $450,000 in Community Project Funding for Major Expansion of Family Services Rhode Island Police GO Team

Amo secured over $11 million in Community Project Funding for Rhode Island’s First Congressional District in Fiscal Year 2026
PROVIDENCE, RI – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) celebrated delivering $450,000 in Community Project Funding for Family Service of Rhode Island to expand their Police GO Team Program.
This funding will enable the FSRI Police GO Team to expand to additional communities and increase availability of 24/7 on-call coverage in the seven communities they already serve.
In the aftermath of the mass shooting at Brown University, the FSRI Police GO Team was one of the first to respond to support victims and their families.
“After violence shatters a family, the healing can’t be an afterthought, it has to start right away,” said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI-01). “What makes FSRI’s Police GO Team so important is that they’ve been there in the hardest moments. From the mass shooting at Brown University to the targeted attack at Lynch Arena, they’ve helped victims and families for more than two decades. I’m proud to bring home $450,000 in federal funding to expand this proven model, so more Rhode Islanders get the support they need when it matters most.”
“FSRI’s Police GO TEAM program does the noble work of helping families – especially kids – recover from experiencing violent crime,” said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). “Thanks to an investment secured by Congressman Amo, FSRI will be able to expand the GO TEAM program to supplement the work of police officers in three more communities.”
“The Barrington Police Department is incredibly grateful to Congressman Amo for securing this federal funding,” said Barrington Chief of Police Colonel Michael E. Correia. “The longstanding partnership between FSRI and our police departments allows officers to focus on keeping our communities safe while still providing care and compassion to the children and families who fall victim to violence. Further expanding the GO Team’s reach will ensure every victim has the support they need.”
“Placing our social service experts alongside the trained law enforcement professionals across Rhode Island is a proven model that ensures children and families disrupted by violence get the services they need without sacrificing public safety,” said Family Service of Rhode Island CEO Margaret Holland McDuff. “We thank Congressman Amo for bringing this funding home and for his work to support Rhode Island children and families with the dignity and compassion they deserve.”
Background
The FSRI Police GO Team pairs law enforcement with social service professionals trained in trauma and crisis response to provide immediate support to children and families after an incident of violence, allowing law enforcement to focus on fighting and solving crimes.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse helped set up the program while serving as Rhode Island Attorney General.
Congressman Amo has secured more than $11 million in Community Project Funding for Rhode Island’s First Congressional District in Fiscal Year 2026.
