Amo Joins Congressional Armenian Caucus and Supports Security Assistance to Armenia

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Congressional Armenian Caucus, co-signed a bipartisan letter to the House and Senate leaders that expresses support for the inclusion of funds in any supplemental appropriations bill to strengthen the U.S.-Armenia security partnership and help address the severe humanitarian challenges caused by Azerbaijan’s recent aggression. The letter expresses funding needs as a result of the unprovoked military offensive that began in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19th.

“At this inflection point for the Caucasus, U.S. leadership is needed to deter further Azerbaijani aggression and enable Armenians to defend their democracy. To this end, we respectfully request that at least $10 million in Foreign Military Financing (FMF) for Armenia be included in the forthcoming supplemental appropriations package,” the Members wrote. “We are also pleased that the President’s supplemental request includes robust funding for humanitarian aid, and we’re hopeful that a portion of these funds will be made available to Armenia to meet the humanitarian needs of the 120,000 refugees who were recently forced from their homes in Nagorno-Karabakh.”

Last week, Congressman Amo joined the bipartisan Congressional Armenian Caucus, which actively works in Congress to address the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues. Members of the caucus strive to foster public awareness in support of a free, united, and independent Armenia, and represent the collective Armenian American viewpoint on matters of public policy.
