Amo Mourns the Passing of Civil Rights Icon Jesse Jackson

February 17, 2026

Providence, RI – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) released the following statement on the passing of Civil Rights legend Jesse Jackson:

“I join those across our nation mourning the loss of Reverend Jesse Jackson, a towering figure who advanced our march toward justice, equality, and dignity for all Americans. As a lion of the Civil Rights movement, he dedicated his life to lifting up the least among us.

From his days working alongside Dr. King to his long time in public service, Jackson’s advocacy for economic fairness and inclusion of the marginalized reminded us that our country is only as strong as its ability to keep our promise to every child, every family, and every community. He understood that the American quilt is stronger when every thread is included and we build a Rainbow Coalition for all to thrive. May we remember not only the life he lived but the mission he advanced — to keep hope alive and make change.

My thoughts are with Reverend Jackson’s family, including my dear colleague Jonathan, and loved ones during this difficult time. I pray they find solace in his legacy which lives on in all those who advocate for justice. We must honor his legacy not just with words — but with action.”
