For the first time, Congressman Amo spoke on the House Floor in support of legislation and will serve on the Subcommittee on Europe and Subcommittee on Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) spoke in support of H.Res. 888, which reaffirms the State of Israel’s right to exist, and H.Res. 793, which calls on Hamas to immediately release hostages taken during the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. Congressman Amo voted in favor of both measures that passed the House of Representatives.
In his remarks, he also encouraged an urgent and collective response to the rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia around the country. Congressman Amo announced today that he will serve as a member of two important subcommittees as a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Congressman Amo was appointed to the Subcommittee on Europe and Subcommittee on Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. Both Subcommittees counted former Congressman David Cicilline (RI-01) as a member.
“Today, I am honored to announce that I will join the Subcommittee on Europe and Subcommittee on Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. As the son of Liberian and Ghanaian immigrants, I look forward to bringing my unique background to our Committee during this important time for our nation and the world,” Congressman Gabe Amo. “Rhode Islanders should know that I am proud to be a powerful advocate for the Ocean State and continue the leadership of my predecessor on these Subcommittees. We are seeing the importance of America’s engagement and diplomacy in the world unfold in real time. With a Rhode Island perspective, I look forward to helping shape our country’s foreign policy, grounded in our values of defending freedom, championing economic opportunity, upholding human rights, and ensuring the rule of law is respected.”
