Amo Statement on Second Fatal Shooting of American Citizen in Minneapolis by Trump’s Out-of-Control ICE Agents

PROVIDENCE, RI – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement on the killing of a second American citizen in Minneapolis, Minnesota by Trump’s out-of-control ICE agents: 

“Trump’s army of authoritarian masked men have once again shot and killed an American citizen exercising their First Amendment rights. This is not law enforcement; it is brutalization of our communities meant to make us afraid.

I offer my condolences to the family of the victim, Alex Pretti – a Veterans Affairs ICU nurse and a beloved son. Trump, Noem, and Miller are spreading lies about him, but let’s be clear: Alexi Pretti’s life was meaningful, yet ICE officers callously ripped it away. 

ICE is a danger to us all and must be immediately pulled out of our cities. Without wholesale gutting and the removal of Kristi Noem, ICE cannot be trusted to operate safely – they will continue to inflict violence on our communities. They must stand down. 

I voted against funding ICE and the Department of Homeland Security this past week, and I’m calling on Republicans in the Senate to do the same. Do not give ICE any more taxpayer dollars to terrorize our communities. Enough is enough.”
