Amo Statement on Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s Decades of Public Service

Washington, DC – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement on the retirement of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi:

“Thank you to Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi for a lifetime of service to the American people. For nearly 40 years, Speaker Pelosi has been a tireless champion for opportunity, equality and progress; she shattered glass ceilings and blazed trails. She fought for the people, for the children, and for our nation — she is the embodiment of American values.

Throughout her career, Speaker Pelosi took on big fights that have shaped our country, including: leading the fight to end the AIDS crisis, spearheading the charge to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, holding Wall Street accountable after the 2008 financial crisis, and securing the passage of the most consequential expansion of health care in a generation, the Affordable Care Act. And as our nation’s Capitol was attacked on January 6th, she stood watch to protect our democracy.

We will all remember Speaker Pelosi's many legislative accomplishments and impressive whip counts, securing her position as our nation’s greatest Speaker of the House. 

I hope she will get to spend some well-earned time with her husband, Paul, her children and grandchildren. I am grateful to have served alongside this true patriot and look forward to working together to ensure Democrats take back the majority and build on her remarkable legacy.”
