Amo Statement on Trump’s Address

Washington, DC – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement on Trump’s address: 

“President Trump’s tirade filled with falsehoods might be over, but his damage continues across our country. Under his watch, Americans are sicker, hungrier, poorer, less safe, and falling further behind. 

In just under two hours of rambling, the President never once spoke to the reality facing working Rhode Islanders. He has warmongered, championed tax cuts for his billionaire buddies, celebrated raising prices with his tariffs, and cut health care for tens of millions, once again demonstrating how out of touch he is with Americans.

The State of the Union isn’t strong when working families are one bill away from crisis, people’s rights are being trampled, and our national security is a pawn for personal gain. 

Rhode Island just saw the largest snowfall in our history, and neighbors are showing up for one another. While we have more work to do, I’ll keep fighting for the support our state needs. The spirit of Rhode Islanders who have stepped up after the storm reflect the values I’ll focus on rather than the divisiveness of tonight’s speech.  I believe in an America rooted in fairness, hard work, and community. We must keep fighting to stop Trump’s chaos, cruelty, and high costs to strengthen our union for all.”
