Amo to Support Rhode Island Values, Fight Harmful Republican Proposals on Budget Committee
Amo will serve on the House Committee on the Budget for the 119th Congress
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) was selected by Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the House Democratic Caucus to serve on the House Committee on the Budget for the 119th Congress.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity serve on the House Committee on the Budget, which will be at the heart of pushing back on Republican attempts to fast-track a tax giveaway that betrays the goal of driving down costs and fighting for priorities that secure the future of countless Americans,” said Congressman Gabe Amo, a member of the House Committee on the Budget. “I look forward to working under Ranking Member Brendan Boyle to draw a clear contrast between our focus on working Americans with our colleagues on the other side of the aisle who are sprinting to slash critical programs like Social Security and Medicare and reverse the progress Democrats achieved over the past four years. Rhode Island values deserve to be in the room and have a seat at the table where consequential decisions are made — I’m ready to get to work.”
"I'm thrilled to welcome Congressman Amo to the House Budget Committee. Growing up in a proud union household, he understands firsthand the challenges working families face. His perspective and commitment will be a tremendous asset as we work together to champion the middle class,” said House Committee on the Budget Ranking Member Ranking Member Brendan Boyle (PA-02).
BACKGROUND
The House Committee on the Budget’s chief responsibility is to draft an annual concurrent resolution on the budget that provides the framework for spending and revenue levels, the federal surplus or deficit, and public debt. The Committee is also the first step in the reconciliation process the Republican House majority is using to push the Trump Tax Scam 2.0 — a plan that could cut key programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Democratic members on the House Committee on the Budget are committed to fighting for budget priorities that reflect the values of families across the country. They believe in investing in America, growing the economy through broad-based prosperity, protecting and improving health care and other vital services, and upholding government’s responsibility to seniors, Veterans and the most vulnerable.
