Congressman Amo Statement on the 51st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

January 22, 2024

PAWTUCKET, RI This afternoon, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) released the following statement:

“Today marks the 51st anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, a landmark decision that affirmed reproductive freedom as a constitutional right for all Americans. Free from the interference of politicians, this right empowered women to make a deeply personal decision,” said Congressman Gabe Amo. "But today is also a somber reminder that a year and half ago, the Supreme Court stripped away this very reproductive freedom. Stacked by the former President with extreme, rightwing justices, the Court has had a devastating impact on women’s freedom and put lives at risk.

“Women across the United States are suffering. In some cases, women even fear being called to court for having a miscarriage or seeking abortion care. Nevertheless, House Republicans remain determined to pass a national abortion ban, prevent women from accessing FDA-approved medication, and stop women from traveling out-of-state to access care they need. This is unacceptable. In Congress, I will always stand up, fight back, and do all I can to support a woman’s right to choose in Rhode Island and across the nation.”
