ICYMI: House Foreign Affairs Vice Ranking Member Gabe Amo Strengthened Diplomatic and Economic Ties on Congressional Delegation Mission to Taiwan

Washington, D.C. – HouseForeign Affairs Committee Vice Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI) joined House Foreign Affairs East Asia and the Pacific Subcommittee Ranking Member Ami Bera (D-CA), House Foreign Affairs Members Congressman Johnny Olszewski (D-MD), Congresswoman Sarah McBride (D-DE), and Congresswoman Julie Johnson (D-TX), and House Armed Services Committee Member Congressman Wesley Bell (D-MO), on a mission to Taiwan to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
"Strengthening economic and cultural ties with Taiwan and other democratic allies is essential to ensuring security and stability in the Indo-Pacific,” said House Foreign Affairs Committee Vice Ranking Member Gabe Amo. “While in Taiwan, we met with President Lai Ching-te, Vice President Hsiao Bi-Khim, and other members of the government to discuss bolstering our industrial collaboration, strengthening our high-tech supply chains, securing regional alliances, and building a thriving Blue Economy for this century and beyond. We also met with the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan to discuss our shared supply chains and supporting international businesses in Taiwan. As a representative of the Ocean State, building links with a partner, friend, and maritime nation is critical for Rhode Island’s economic success. Thank you to the people and government of Taiwan for your hospitality – nothing beats meeting face-to-face to form lasting partnerships with a key ally.”
The Members engaged with TaiwanesePresident of Taiwan Lai Ching-te, Vice President of Taiwan Hsiao Bi-khim, other members of government, the American Chamber of Commerce, local community leaders, and the American Institute in Taiwan to discuss Taiwan-United States relations, shared economic interests, and security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
