Amo fights back against Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans’ push to privatize nation’s essential antipoverty program and erosion of key functions at Social Security Administration

Barrington, RI – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) visited the Peck Adult Enrichment Center in Barrington on the 90th Anniversary of Social Security to share his work in Congress to protect the program from President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans’ threats of privatization and insolvency. Rhode Island seniors shared why Social Security was important to them and how it helped them make ends meet in retirement.

“For 90 years, Social Security has allowed older Americans to live out their golden years in dignity and security,” said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). “Trump and Congressional Republicans are doing everything in their power to undercut this critical program so many rely on to make ends meet. They’ve threatened to privatize the program, and their Big, Ugly Law pushes the trust fund toward insolvency one year earlier than expected, leading to potential benefit cuts for today’s and tomorrow’s retirees. That’s why I’m fighting back and supporting the Social Security 2100 Act, to make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share and expand benefits, protecting retirees and the program for generations to come. ”
