Amo Grills OMB Director Over Cruel and Chaotic Cuts Driving Up Costs and Hurting Rhode Islanders

Russel Vought, Trump’s Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), was a key architect of the right-wing Project 2025 plan to hurt working Americans
Washington, DC – YESTERDAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI), Member of the House Budget Committee, challenged OMB Director Russell Vought over the Trump administration’s deep funding cuts that he’s been gleefully implementing and their real-world impact on Rhode Islanders. Director Vought has led efforts to slash funding for health care, food assistance, and other essential programs, forcing states to make impossible choices and pushing working families to the brink.
“I am here to call you out on the pain that you've inflicted on Rhode Islanders and Americans who are fed up,” said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) in the hearing. “You think that good things come from breaking people. Your decisions have done nothing but hurt my constituents. Your actions reveal the truth, despite your words, when given the choice, you have chosen cruelty and chaos … over and over and over again.”

Background
Congressman Amo opposed Trump’s so-called “Big, Ugly Law” at every stage, fighting against cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and other programs that Rhode Islanders rely on.
As a member of the House Budget Committee, he continues to push back against efforts to shift costs onto working families while undermining Congress’s authority over federal spending.
