Washington, DC – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) held a telephone town hall to answer questions from Rhode Islanders in the First Congressional District and share his efforts to lower costs and expand opportunities for Rhode Islanders.
“Our nation’s 250th anniversary is an inflection point. It’s an opportunity to choose a better path, one that leads to liberty, prosperity, and a shot at the American Dream for every Rhode Islander,” said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). “While Trump and Republicans drive up prices and rubber-stamp an illegal unnecessary war with Iran, I’ll keep fighting in Congress to make real change and lower costs for Rhode Islanders.”
Background
Congressman Amo is laser-focused on stopping corruption, ending the war in the Middle East, lowering prices, and expanding opportunity for Rhode Islanders.
July is the one-year anniversary of Trump and Congressional Republicans’ Big Ugly Law.
This legislation cut $1 trillion from America’s health care system, stripped health care access from millions of Americans, including roughly 40,000 Rhode Islanders, and slashed $200 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helps 90,000 Rhode Island households put food on the table.
Since the law passed, SNAP participation has declined by more than 4 million people nationwide.
More than 10,000 Rhode Islanders have dropped health care coverage because it has become unaffordable.
Congressman Amovoted against this legislation and is working to stop cuts harming Rhode Islanders.
