WASHINGTON, DC – Today, in a House Committee on the Budget hearing, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) called out the cynical Republican proposal that would slash Medicaid by $880 billion and cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by $230 billion just to give more tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans.

Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), and Senator Angus King (I-ME) introduced this legislation in the U.S. Senate today.

Over the course of more than 40 years in the Rhode Island state legislature, Senate President Ruggerio fiercely advocated for the people and places that make Rhode Island unique. On April 21, 2025, he passed away after a long battle with cancer.
