Rhode Island’s two-member U.S. House delegation has turned over in the last few years. In the Second District, Congressman Jim Langevin dropped a surprise announcement in 2022 that he would not seek re-election after 22 years in office. Then First District Congressman David Cicilline, initially elected in 2010, made his unexpected departure last year. That latter move opened the door for Gabe Amo, a son of West African immigrants, to become the first person of color to represent Rhode Island in Congress.

PROVIDENCE — Ervin Vargas of Pawtucket was one of about a hundred soccer fans who spent the weekend in South Carolina for one reason: to support the Rhode Island FC. 

Turned out their trip down south was worth it. 

Rhode Island FC beat the Charleston Battery, winning the club its first Eastern Conference title and securing its place in the United Soccer League title game on Saturday.

In early March, a pair of Warwick grandparents gave up over $18,000 to cover what they thought was their grandson’s bail. They were contacted again and told to pay $40,000, but this time, they recognized the request as a scam and contacted the Warwick Police. The incident, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island, is part of a growing number of cases of elder fraud in the Ocean State.
