Providence, RI – U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressman Gabe Amo joined with Mayor Brett Smiley and SAMHSA Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Miriam Delphin-Rittmon to highlight a new $2.3 million federal First Responders - Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (FR-CARA) grant to support the City’s comprehensive strategy to improve first responders’ ability to save lives.  Whitehouse authored CARA, which is the primary law guiding the federal response to the opioid epidemic.

BOSTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management has been selected to receive $306,441 in grants to provide technical assistance to businesses to develop and adopt pollution prevention (P2) practices in local communities.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) announced Rhode Island was awarded $24,063,792 in funding for LIHEAP administered through the Administration for Children and Families’ Office of Community Services at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This funding will help individuals and families with low incomes pay their home heating costs this winter, and with cooling bills in the summer.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Lina M. Khan to help prevent elder fraud in Rhode Island. In the letter, Congressman Amo highlights that Rhode Island is one of ten states to see the largest increase in elder fraud between 2022 and 2023.

Providence, RI – U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed and Representatives Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs has awarded $600,000 in funding to the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Center for Forensic Sciences to reduce the backlog of DNA casework and ensure justice can be served for victims of both violent and non-violent crimes.  With this funding, the state’s crime lab expects to typically process cases within 30 days for violent crimes and 90 days for non-violent crimes.
