PROVIDENCE, RI – U.S. Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Representatives Seth Magaziner (D-RI) and Gabe Amo (D-RI) today announced that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded a $1,500,512 grant to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) to remove a sunken, crane-topped barge from the Providence River.

PAWTUCKET, RI – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) held the first meeting of the newly-established District Climate Policy Advisory Committee — a critical resource and sounding board to help advocate for Rhode Island’s conservation and sustainability. In addition to advising Congressman Amo on federal funding priorities, planning community events, and engaging with local environmental organizations, the committee will serve as a resource for recommendations on legislation and district priorities.

WASHINGTON, DC – In an effort to support high-quality literacy instruction to build strong readers, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo today joined Governor Dan McKee and Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green in announcing that the Ocean State will receive a new Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) grant providing a projected $40 million over the next five years.

SMITHFIELD, RI – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01), a member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, convened a roundtable conversation on the first day of school at Smithfield High School to discuss impact of artificial intelligence in the classroom. Specifically, he highlighted bipartisan legislation that he is co-leading, the Literacy in Future Technologies (LIFT) Artificial Intelligence Act, which would improve artificial intelligence literacy for K-12.

CRANSTON, RI – Building on years of work to assist flood-prone residents in the Pocasset River Watershed, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo today announced the Rhode Island office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) has been authorized to implement the Pocasset River Flood Damage Reduction Project.

PROVIDENCE, RI – Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation today announced that the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is awarding a team of academic researchers led by the University of Rhode Island (URI) $8 million through the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) Collaborations for Optimizing Research Ecosystems Research Infrastructure Improvement Program (E-CORE RII).

BOSTON – Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) celebrated a $210,000 grant to the Rhode Island Department of Health to protect the health of beachgoers. This funding is part of $9.75 million in national grants, announced in June, to help coastal and Great Lakes communities. The funding will support water quality monitoring and public notification programs for beaches.

Green International Airport.
