PROVIDENCE, RI – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) joined Dean Ashish Jha of Brown University’s School of Public Health for the February installment of “Dean’s Conversation Series.” Taking place during Black History Month, Congressman Amo spoke about his efforts to close racial equity gaps in health care, such as supporting funding for health care facilities that provide comprehensive primary care to medically underserved communities, as well as his work to protect critical funding for medical research and public health programs under threat due to cuts by the Trump administration.

NEWPORT, RI – Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) visited East Bay Dental Center, a community health center administered by East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP), that delivers services to Rhode Islanders on Aquidneck Island. During the visit and tour, he spoke with staff about the downstream impacts of Medicaid cuts and how they would affect the services that East Bay Community Action Program provides for children, adults, and seniors in Rhode Island.

Today, Congressman Gabe Amo (RI-01) and Congresswomen Diana DeGette (CO-01), Linda Sánchez (CA-38), Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07), and Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) led over a majority of the House Democratic Caucus in a letter to Acting Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that expresses alarm at the illegal decision by President Trump to reduce the reimbursement rate for indirect research costs to 15 percent across the board.

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) today reintroduced bipartisan legislation to posthumously honor America’s first Black military unit with the Congressional Gold Medal. The First Rhode Island Regiment Congressional Gold Medal Act would commemorate the legacy of this Revolutionary War unit by awarding the Congressional Gold Medal in its honor to the Rhode Island State Library for display and research purposes.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Vice Ranking Member Gabe Amo (RI-01) called out the irony of the House Committee on Foreign holding a hearing titled “the USAID Betrayal” when in fact USAID is being betrayed by President Trump’s actions. Beyond turning our backs on our international community that relies on USAID, Congressman Amo argued that Trump is also betraying the American farmers, businesses, organizations, and universities who worked with USAID now left without the payments theyare owed.
